How has the Year of Personal Challenge been for you?

Hi there,

The end of the year is fast approaching and with Christmas just around the corner, I thought that I would send out an early and very brief newsletter this month for all you guys working, writing or performing in the music industry.

First of all I hope it's been a good year for you and that you have found a way to overcome any challenges. I have heard that 2007 has been called 'the year of personal challenge' and so I hope they have been few and not too painful!

I'm hoping too, that you will be able to have a long-deserved break over this period of festivities and that you may have a little space to take time out for a bit of reflection and forward planning. It would be so good to start the New Year with a fresh outlook and buzzing with all your plans and ideas for 2008.

So here are a couple of Tips to get you going!

Tip 1 - Review time. Take a large piece of paper and 'mind map' the main music activities you achieved or worked on during 2007. Under each main activity highlight:
• what worked well?
• where was there room for improvement?
• what did you learn?
• what can you use again in 2008?

Once you have mapped your review out - take a colouring pen and with a fabulous colour of your choice - circle the points that you want to take with you into 2008.

Tip 2 - Energise your 2008! Take a further large piece of paper and map out your plans and ideas and dreams for your music career in 2008. Let yourself get really excited with the prospect of working on your music or working with that artist. The more passionate you are about your music career, the less it feels like work and the more energised you become.

For now don't focus on the details - that's maybe a job for your first week back to work. But just focus on all the possibilities, the opportunities, the collaborations that you want to make happen.

If you have some specific dreams that you want to come to fruition in 2008, then I invite you to create a dream board - sticking on photos of people you wish to work with, or artists you admire and wish to emulate their success. With your dream board the sky's the limit - in fact let me correct that - there is no limit! You can draw your dreams, or you can find symbols or pictures that represent them. Once you've made a start to your dream board, make sure you display it so that you can see it often - and do keep looking at it - for it will help you to keep your dreams in focus.

Once you've completed your mind maps and/or dream board - then you can start the New Year in the knowledge that from the word go, you can take steps to make them happen.

I hope this has been useful and that you can find that space to work through your review and forward planning. Don't forget to email me to set up a free consultation call, if you need help with your planning.

Here's to a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

Cheers!
