Hello, my name is Lindsey Benton. My guess is, that before you decide to work with me, you're going to want to know something about me…

From a very early age I have been passionate about two things: one is music, the other people.

Music

As a musician yourself, you will totally understand the energy and emotion that music can evoke within us. I first remember this passion and energy pulsing through my veins at the age of 3 with – dare I admit it? – Puppet on a String!

I'm relieved to say that my musical tastes have evolved somewhat since then, and have covered a wide range of genres. I was brought up listening to jazz, ragtime, and classical – all of which I loved. But from the age of 12, I was like a sponge – listening to anything and everything I could lay my hands on (first singles purchased: Looking After No. 1 by the Boomtown Rats and Going Underground by The Jam). As a result I still have a wide taste in music – there's not much that I can't stand to listen to!

I am also a fellow musician, playing electric guitar and bass, but for my own personal pleasure and not in a performing role. I find it is a great de-stressor.

I started going to gigs regularly from the age of 13 and have never looked back – luckily, I had an older brother to tag along with. That same brother and I were talking about John Peel recently and I cited him as a great influence on my varied musical taste. My brother replied: “Ah, now it all becomes clear – I thought you just had weird taste in music!”

People

My work with people has been varied from working with long-term unemployed people in a countryside setting, to setting up befriending projects and a social car scheme, to becoming a funding manager - giving out grants to voluntary and community groups to enable them to make a difference to people's lives and consequently making the world a better place to live. I ended my funding career by organising a music competition that ended with a showcase event for aspiring artists in the Derby area – fantastic fun!

Alongside my varied working life, I have pursued a major passion for personal development. As such I am a qualified practitioner of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® – a personality tool - and I am also a qualified and practising Life Coach. I have also undertaken courses in basic counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

My other interests

I have always been known as a ‘rock chick' to my mates – not just because I tend to favour rock music, but because I did have a third passion, not mentioned earlier: rock climbing. Sadly I no longer partake of the sport, but surfice with walking in the Peak District, close to where I live.

I love watching films and spend most of my spare time in Sheffield at the Showroom Cinema. Check out some of my favourite films. You can also check out who I'm listening to at the moment.
